Are you selling to Hong Kong yet?

Earlier this week on my blog I posted the numbers of items available to the UK in each top level category.  I’ve just done a comparison of a few of them looking from Hong Kong.

Seems to me that plenty of international sellers might not have updated their destinations yet, and that there’s an opportunity to be at the front of the line.

Examples of UK v. HK numbers…

  • Clothes, Shoes, Accessories 77,718 v. 4,132
  • Crafts & Sewing 65,725 v. 1,776
  • Photography 8,503 v. 109
  • Sport Memorabilia & Cards 74,250 v. 2,629

There are some pretty substantial short-falls there, and some of those items ought to involve pretty reasonable shipping costs.

If you’re in the UK you can use Royal Mail’s price finder to check how much you need to charge for shipping. For example a 100g small packet costs just £1.82 to post to Hong Kong by Airmail.

Ship to Hong Kong

If you have a standard product with standard weight and shipping costs, you can update your items using Bulk Edit - select those items you wish to change and use “add” in the international postage area, choosing Hong Kong and setting the price and service - but for eclectic sales you’ll need to set them individually. A bit of a fiddle, but maybe worth it?

For US sellers the USPS site gives details of rules and costs for shipping to Hong Kong here

So why not take a look, do some updating, and get yourself at the front of the Hong Kong queue?

Seller plus account holders on eBid get up to five free pictures hosted on their listings. Quite often you really only need one or two views of the item being sold, but don’t waste the facility. There’s nothing to stop you putting pictures of other items, or general advertisements into your spare picture slots. Just make very sure that it’s clear what you’ve done.

Suppose you have a cup and saucer for sale, and you’ve put a couple of pics on. If you have another item that you think would appeal to the same sort of buyer, you can add a picture of that too with a suitable caption. Use your favourite image handling software to write “more items in my shop” or whatever across the picture and add it to the listing. Remember to also put a brief explanation on your listing, such as “pictures 4 and 5 are of other items available in my store at time of listing at storename.ebid.net” for example.  Use your imagination! Cross-selling isn’t a strong element of the eBid layout, so make sure you do your best to bolster that aspect.  And don’t waste those free pics!

Happy selling.
